MATHEMATICS/ GEOGRAPHY 574 GEOSTATISTICS

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM DONALD E. MYERS

October 2007

There will be a change in this course beginning in the fall of 2008. I have taught the course and its predecessors since the fall of 1982 but I officially retired in the summer of 1998. Since then I have continued to teach it (subject to availability of funds) There was no one else in the department to teach it and the department did not intend to hire some one to teach it.

It was obvious that this was not a long term solution and when the new Director of the Statistics GIDP, Walter Piegorsch, was hired I urged him to incorporate the course in the Statistics program and find a way to provide a faculty member to teach it. This has now occurred, Geography and Regional Development in collaboration with the Statistics GIDP has hired Professor Daoquin Tong who will teach the new course.

My understanding is that the course will be transferred to Geography and Regional Development and it will be cross-listed in Statistics, it will also have a new number.

For my past students my class notes will remain accessible from my homepage

or the course link

I will still have an office on campus at least for the foreseeable future and am available to my past students including service on PhD committees if so desired.

To all my past students and to all the faculty that have cooperated or collaborated with me or sent me students over the years, my thanks.
